Stress often contributes to flare ups, and may even triger a break out for the first time in adulthood. Eczema usually doesn't occur due to emotional stress or anxiety. However, these conditions may trigger an outbreak. Common Food triggers are sugars, wheat, beef, dairy, amines (found in aged foods like cheese), and salicylates (a natural chemical in many fruits & vegetables. Chemical triggers may come in the form of toileties, lotions, shampoo and other personal products. Their ingredients range from natural to synthetic while causing the same resulting flares. Common environmental triggers include dust/dust mites, mold, animals, pollens, and grasses to name a few.

Acne / Cystic Acne may be a sign of early hyperthyroid problems. An underactive thyroid does not produce enough hormones to adequately regulate the body’s metabolism. Post adolescent acne is increasingly common, especially in women and often associated with their menstrual cycle or conditions such as polycystic ovarian disorder.
We look at the thyroid gland as well as other glands in the head an body. Often we discover nutrition, vitamin and mineral deficiency at the heart of what is going on. Our skin is our largest organ and helps eliminate toxins among its many functions. There can be genetic factors in play, however, they along are not responsible. Many people with eczema have other allergies, intolerances like food, food chemical, drug, fragrances, seasonal, environmental allergies or conditions like asthma. Some chemicals used in everyday toiletries, like fragrances, disrupt organ, hormones and metabolic functions. As hormones are the language of the body, toxins of this type can have a rippling effect in the body. As the gut is the center of our immune system, we often look there first to identify the root cause of most intolerances.
